1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 will break a bone as the result of poor bone health; often following only a minor bump or fall from standing height (fragility fracture).
Patients like you who have had a fragility fracture are at increased risk of breaking bones in the future. A fracture risk assessment tool has been developed by the World Health Organisation. You can access this at www.sheffield.ac.uk/FRAX.
Risk factors for breaking a bone e.g. the risk of falling may be tackled by lifestyle changes. However other risk factors relate to bone strength and may be positively affected by taking bone medicine. Have a word with your GP. |
